2. Adding/Removing documents

The Content tree

The Project contains the Content tree. The Content tree in turn contains all documents in the project. As will be explained later, a web page is a document rendered using a layout. Thus, all documents in the Content tree will eventually become web pages. Documents and layouts are essential parts of Site Studio and a clear understanding of them is vital. Don't worry to much, its quite simple...

The documents in the Content tree are placed in an hierachy with the content root at the top level. The placement of documents will be important since menus can be created automatically from the Content tree.

The Content tree.

The Content root is at the top. Try clicking on different documents in the Content tree to switch between them. Especially check the Contact document. The document uses Project Fields, which shows the data entered when creating the project.

The red icon next to the Home document indicates that the document is marked as the start page (eg. the home of the web site).

Note! The Content root is not a document (as can be seen by the different icon). Therefore it can't be shown.

Adding documents

To add a document to the Content tree first select the document which should own the new document, eg. become it parent. Then click the Add Document button or right-click the parent document and select Add document... from the context menu. This will bring up the Add Document Dialog.

Above the Content tree, the Add Document button is found.

Enter the title of the new document in the document title field. The title is shown in the content tree.

The Layout field contains a list of all layouts. Selecting a layout determines how the document is rendered, eg. displayed. It can be changed later in the Document Properties dialog.

The Document Style contains a list of pre-made document styles. Like a two-column document or just a normal blank document.

Deleting documents

To delete a document, click on it to select it. Then click on the Delete Document button. Or right-click the document and select Delete from the context menu. Deleting a document will also delete all children to that document.

Above the Content tree, the Delete Document button is found.

Remove the About document and the Services document with its child documents.

Add a document named "Alpha Calculator" to the Products document.

Use Two Columns with Leading Text Document Style.

Add a document named "Alpha Graphs" to the Products document.

Use Normal Document Style.
