8. Manage Resources

The Resource Manager makes it possible to import external files such as images, pdf-files and flash-movies. When importing files The Resource Manager copies the files into the project, thus making duplicates of the files.

Images can be resized during the import process, which is a specially good feature when importing pictures from your digital camera. The images can be resized automatically.

When importing images an optionally thumbnail can be created. The thumbnail serves as a icon when using the image gallery enabled layouts. Layout will be described in detail later.

A Resource refers to one file. A resource is placed in a resource folder. The resource folders makes it easy to maintain a good structure of the resources, even when the number of resources increases.

Resource folders are managed in the Resources Dialog which is easily accessed through the button displayed below on the main toolbar.

The resources button, found on the main toolbar.

Add a new resource folder and import images to it (as shown below)

Create a new folder by clicking on the Add Folder button. Name it Images.

Now import files to the folder by selecting the folder Images and then click Import file to folder....

First select the files to import. Select your own image files or borrow some from Site Studio.

To use images from Site Studio, browse to the directory where Site Studio is installed (Usually c:\program files\effective\SiteStudio) then browse to "system\templates\projects\family\site\res\Photos". Select all .jpg files.

After selecting the images, the following dialog is presented:

Images can be resized when importing them. Constraining the width or the height (eg. setting the max value) will shink a larger image to fit the constrained size. Shrinking is always made proportional, thus the ratio between width and height is constant. This function is very useful when importing images directly from your digital camera, since they normally are too large to present well on the web.

Optionally thumbnails can be created. Thumbnails are used in image galleries as previews of the real images.

Note! The original image file is left untouched. The import function makes a copy of the file.

Click OK to import the images.

Click OK to leave the Resources Dialog.
